Most business owners think they have a marketing problem or that more content is the answer to their problem.
But plot twist—it’s usually a messaging, positioning, or user experience problem that they've been blind to until they start marketing and realizing "oh shit, this isn't working"
See, marketing isn’t magic...It’s a megaphone.
So when your brand and offers are giving *chaotic at best*, you're just amplifying that mess to the masses when you start using things like social media marketing 📢
What I typically see when your marketing isn’t working, you either:
- A) Keep shouting the same confused message (but LOUDER!)
- B) Try a different message every other day (hoping something sticks)
- C) Throw discounts and promos around like confetti
None of these fix the real problem: CLARITY
So let’s troubleshoot what’s actually broken:
1️⃣ Does your audience even know what you’re selling?
If your ideal client needs a decoder ring to understand your offer, they’re already gone.
One of the most common mistakes? Overcomplicating your messaging.
Like, why are you out here talking like a Harvard Business Review article when your audience just wants a clear solution to their problem?
🚨 Bad: “A dynamic strategic solution for business growth.”
✅ Better: “A marketing strategy that helps you get more clients.”
When you’re deep in your expertise, you forget that ‘common knowledge’ isn’t common at all. What feels obvious to you is brand new info to your audience.
🧠 A lil psych nugget: Your brain is wired to trust things it understands quickly. The second something feels complicated (cue Avril Lavigne singing, “Why’d you have to go and make things so complicated?”), people check out.
TL;DR: Clear beats clever. Every. Single. Time.
2️⃣ Do YOU even know what you’re selling (and are you confident AF in it)?
Let’s be real. If your offer is changing faster than your “work from home” sweatshirt rotation, we’ve got a problem.
You know what I’m talking about:
- On Monday, it’s “Perfect for photographers! Full price!”
- By Tuesday, it’s “Now with a free trial! But actually, it’s for videographers!”
- By Wednesday, you’re like, “Screw it—this is for everyone! And it’s 50% off if you buy in the next 10 minutes!”
Ma’am, STOP THAT. This is chaos.
Why this confuses the hell out of your audience:
- ❌ They hesitate to buy because “What if a better deal comes along?” (I mean, at this rate, you’ll be giving it away for free.)
- ❌ Your credibility tanks—if you can’t clearly articulate what you’re selling and who it’s for, how can they trust you to deliver?
- ❌ Your message gets lost—when your positioning is all over the place, no one remembers what you actually do.
🧠 A lil psych nugget: When you throw too many options at people, their brains short-circuit. Decision fatigue is real, and it makes people choose nothing instead of choosing you.
TL;DR: Stand by your offer with confidence. Because if you don’t, why should they?
3️⃣ Is it stupidly easy for people to buy from you?
Even if your messaging is chef’s kiss and your offer is everything they need… a clunky sales process will kill your vibe faster than bad WiFi at a coffee shop.
If someone needs a video tutorial or a 12-step guide just to figure out how to pay you, you dun goofed.
Ask yourself:
- Is your checkout process giving “obstacle course” energy?
- Do people have to DM you just to buy? (Why do they need to slide into your inbox like a secret handshake is required??)
- Is the path from “I’m interested” to “I’m in” longer than a CVS receipt?
Because if yes… Houston, we’ve got a problem.
🧠 A lil psych nugget: Your brain is like a teenager who doesn’t want to do chores. The second something feels like work, it peaces out. That’s why Amazon made billions with one-click checkout. They knew we’d rather tap once and spend money than go through a 10-step checkout process that makes us rethink our life choices.
TL;DR: Make buying from you easier than getting sucked into your nightly TikTok binge.
So here's what I'm getting at...
Marketing only works when your foundation is solid.
✅ Get crystal clear on your brand first.
✅ Use that clarity to create offers that make sense.
✅ Make every step of the customer journey smooth like butter.
Because when you nail these fundamentals—THAT’S when your marketing has something worth amplifying.
So no, the answer isn’t more content. It’s better clarity.
And once you have that? You won’t need to scream for attention—your audience will already be listening.
