☕ content series? yes or no...

Have you noticed your IG and TikTok feeds are starting to feel a little like Netflix, except instead of a cozy binge night, you’re just… dropped into a show mid-season.

You open your app, and bam...someone’s posting “Day 4 of XYZ,” and you have no idea what happened on Days 1–3. But suddenly you’re tapping over to their profile, scrolling backward like a digital detective trying to piece together the full plot?

Samesies. And you can expect more of it because we’ve officially entered the era of content series: micro-seasons of ideas, stories, rants, and advice that unfold post by post.

Here’s why this format works so well for your audience, the algorithm, and your sanity.

✔️ Psychologically:

  • Your brain needs closure. (You're probably sick of me talking about the Zeigarnik Effect by now, but your brain LOVES a closed loop)
  • We love a repeated format. (familiarity bias)
  • We stick with things once we’re a little invested (commitment bias)

✔️ Platform behavior:

Instagram and TikTok prioritize watch time, saves/shares, and repeat visits. And "series content" makes people binge, and bingeing means bookmarking (mental bookmarks count too), and bookmarking means visibility.

✔️ For you as the creator:

  • You're no longer reinventing the wheel on every post (!!!)
  • Instead, you're just expanding one thread over time. You can riff, you can evolve the idea as you go, and you can breathe a little easier (aka tryyyy this if you haven't already)

And because I don’t believe in recommending things I wouldn’t do myself, here are a few series I’m playing with right now:

▶️ “Rebuilding My Brand & Content Strategy” – a behind-the-scenes look at how I’m refining my own brand and content strategy. I'm taking you along for the journey and showing you what I'm working on every day so you can see behind the curtain and learn a thing or two.

▶️ “Post-Run Content Rants” – my low(est) effort video, high(est) clarity ideas I record after a run, when my brain is buzzing with noise. I'm sweaty, unscripted...and very me. Post-run I would always go nose diving into my notes app with tons of ideas I'd want to expand on in my newsletter, on stories, or in a carousel post... but alas - by the time I got home, I'd lose the spark and move onto something else. So I figured, let's skip the notes app and just hit record. You'll get the raw, honest Marissa-isms in full force when you tune into these.

Sooo your turn! Try a series.

Pick a topic you love talking about and chunk it down episode by episode or fill us in about a journey you’re on episode by episode.

Doesn’t have to be formal, fancy, or highly edited. Just commit to part one and let the rest unfold.

And like anything, if you hate it, bail. You're not committed to a full 30 days (unless that's your thing).

At the end of the day, it's literally just content. Keep it on-brand. Have some fun. Let it ride.

Until next time,

Marissa

Ever done a “quick market-research scroll” and wound up questioning your whole business? There you are, mid-day social scroll, iced latte sweating on your desk, when one of your competitors pops up selling half your deliverables for double your rate. Say whaaaat? Queue the mental spiraling. ✨ "How does she justify that? Her results aren't any better than mine?" "Maybe people aren't actually buying? Maybe she's getting pushback..." "Wait, what if I doubled my rates? Could I finally take a...

Can I be blunt? F*ck it, it's my newsletter. I'll be blunt. If following the tips, tricks, and trends you saved on social media were the answer to your problems, you wouldn’t still feel this stuck. You wouldn’t be questioning why your content looks fine but feels off. You wouldn’t be wondering why clients love you but strangers scroll right past. You wouldn't be second guessing if maybe you should switch your visuals up....again. Truth? No trend or tactic will save a brand that’s unclear. And...

I'd put money on the fact that you're probably making your content strategy much more convoluted than it needs to be. I see so many of you stressing about things like the best days to post, the best times to post, or the best way to shuffle through your content topics. Can I be totally honest with you? None of that really matters. Now I won't lie to you. When I first started creating content for my business, I was biggg time into the idea of "talk about this content pillar on this day, and...
