☕️ your brain is cooler than you give it credit for

I've told you this multiple times before, but my most re-read, annotated, and highlighted marketing book? Using Behavioral Science in Marketing by Nancy Harhut.

What I haven't told you is how, when this book came out in 2022 and I first devoured it, I remembered I have free will...and LinkedIn. So I personally messaged Nancy to ask for other book recommendations.

My thought process was if THIS is this good, who does SHE learn from? How can I tap into the source and learn even more?

To my delight, she responded. To my dismay, I kinda hated the books she recommended (aside from this one).

But what I loveee about this interaction is that it perfectly proves my whole you-ness thing.

No one else's brain processes information and spits it back out into the world the way yours does.

The books she recommended were basically covering the same information and topics. But I was bored to tears in those versions. It was her brain and her unique way of synthesizing the information that had me locked tf in.

Think about that for a sec.

One author had me going out of my way to DM her asking for more info. While the others, covering the exact same topic, put me to sleep.

People aren't just drawn to information. They're drawn to the way someone thinks about that information.

The same thing is happening when people read your content.

Some people are locked tf in. Others are like, "EW. GIRL, BYE."

And that's okay!!

Like, I don't think you realize how many things are happening in your brain that make so much sense to you because of the unique experiences you've gone through, the years of repetition, and the trial and error.

Those experiences shape how you make decisions. You're able to weed out why this is a yes, why this is a no, etc.

But to somebody else? They're not necessarily going to understand what you understand in the way you understand it.

That's your you-ness.

And it's exactly what you should be showing off in your content.

Instead of only teaching people what you do, start showing them how your brain gets there.

What makes you...you?

Why do you approach things the way you approach them? Why do you make the decisions you make? Articulate that.

Then pair it with your personality if you're a founder-led brand and your portfolio.

The personality gives people a taste of WHO they can expect, the portfolio gives people a taste of WHAT they can expect, and the backend bits of your brain? That completes the picture and shows HOW you get them there.

Now people aren't just seeing the final product...they're seeing the thinking behind it.

They're seeing how your perspective, your process, and your work all fit together.

And when people can see that full picture, it becomes so much easier for them to say, "Yeah. Sign me up. I want more of that"

Catch ya next week,

Marissa

✨ Rolls up sleeves and hands seltzer to husband ✨ Anyone wanna tell me why you're treating social media like the be-all, end-all of your marketing funnel? Because while social media is great for discovery, attention is NOT the whole damn point. Those views you're obsessed with getting? Great. But what happens AFTER someone sees your post? Do they keep scrolling, consume 14 more reels, and completely forget you existed? Because if soooo, then those views aren't exactly doing much for your...

Can I be so honest with you? There are some days (like today) when I have BUCKETS of information I want to share with you. I consider sending emails at times that aren't Wednesday at 8 am EST, and I have to physically restrain myself so I don't publish every post on my Instagram feed. And truthfully (because I'm weak and only human), on these days I go buckwild posting trial reels (since y'all can't see it hehe) bc I'm itching to get the content OUT. Out of my brain. Out of my camera roll....
