☕ maybe your expectations are unrealistic

Your expectations are unrealistic.

You want dream clients to come banging down your door after one well-crafted post, in the same way you want a six-pack to appear after a few crunches.

I've made the comparison before, but let me say it a little louder this time: Social media is a hell of a lot like exercise.

You won’t see sustainable results overnight. You can’t crack the code once and coast forever. And if you stop putting in effort, your results slow down.

Case in point - I just hit a 142-week workout streak (!!!) Which means that for almost three years, I’ve moved my body at least once a week.

That consistency has built momentum for sure. (It’s why I can sign up for a race and finish even if I haven't been 'training')

But the catch is that when my effort dips, so do my results.

I ran an unplanned 5K last weekend. I started strong (8:49), but quickly slowed down because my training/effort hadn’t matched the outcome I wanted (11:31).

The same thing happens with social media.

If you post once and disappear, you’ll always feel like you’re starting from zero.

And if you’re frustrated because you are showing up but not seeing results, it’s the same as expecting abs after a 30-minute workout.

That sh*t ain't realistic!

Because just like one workout won’t transform your body, one post won’t transform your business.

Sure, you might get an inquiry here or there or even get a viral post. But the real impact doesn’t come from likes, saves, or shares.

And here’s where the metaphor ends—because in fitness, results are physical.

In business, results are relational. The meaningful results come from the collection of posts working together.

From consistently showing up, staying top of mind, and being known for your unique perspective and expertise. That’s what builds trust. That’s what gets you hired.

Because remember…if it really were as easy and instant as people hope, then no one would be out of shape (re: the fitness side of this analogy) and everyone would be booked out from Instagram alone.

But that’s not reality. So ground yourself. Come back to center. And remember your expectations of “fast and easy” aren’t the truth—momentum, aligned effort, and staying the course are.

Catch ya next week,

Marissa

Understandably, when most business owners reach out to me, they have the same goal. Sign more clients, make more money, etc. And usually, their brain at this point jumps straight to things like: “I should probably post more social content.” "Maybe I should invest in SEO or AI search discovery." “Do I need a better funnel??” “Maybe I should rebrand…again.” But I want to challenge you that sometimes the bottleneck isn’t visibility or discovery. It’s your process. Specifically…your website,...

I hate to be the one to tell you, but no…you’re probably not going to convert high-ticket clients using social media alone. And that’s coming from me - a girlie who lives, breathes, and swears by content being the only thing you need to build your brand and attract best-fit clients. But ahem.... “content” doesn’t just mean Reels and carousel posts. Do most of my clients find me on social? Yes. Do they tell me my content is one of the reasons they felt confident hiring me? Also yes. But be so...

Has anyone else noticed the income claims resurfacing on IG lately? Not the wild “I made $100K in 10 days” bullshit… but the opposite. Vulnerability posts where people with over 50k followers admit they made $1–4k in a month. 😅 And listen, any money is good money. I’m pro-honesty, always. But these posts fire me up because they’re the wake-up call people actually need... What we see online rarely matches what’s happening in the business. Take a few service providers I admire. They’re insanely...
