You're far too good at your thing to be stuck in this cycle.
Stressing about how to get more clients, how to market yourself on social, how to be seen, discovered, and booked before you're staring down a credit card bill like "okay, universe, any day now"
But if we're being honest, that’s where a lot of us land.
Most service providers (myself included) love what they do. You probably kicked ass in corporate (or at the very least, had a “normal” job that you were objectively great at) but something didn’t fit.
The company culture was trash, or life came at you fast and suddenly you were in your “I should just do this on my own” era.
And then you did. You launched your business and built something from scratch.
Now you’re in year 3, 5, 7, whatever—and you’re still here. Still showing up. Still booked... sometimes.
But here’s what happens: You get a couple great clients or you lock in a few dreamy projects and go into “serve mode,” tunnel-visioned on delivering the work.
Your marketing? That slides allll the way to the back burner. 😅
Then those projects wrap up, the contracts close, and your inbox starts to feel a little... quiet.
And suddenly you find yourself back to panic posting, scrambling to “be visible,” wondering if you should run a promo or just start manifesting in the mirror. (No shade, I’ve for sure tried both options in the past too 😂)
The worst part?
You think it's working (because technically, you get a few inquiries) But when you look back at your last 5-10 projects, how many of them were actually dream clients??
Like the kind of clients you’d build your brand around??
The kind who pay well, trust your process, and leave you feeling energized...not emotionally wrecked and underpaid.
If the answer is “meh... maybe half”? That’s not a strategy, sis. That’s a survival cycle. And I promise, you weren’t put on this earth to build a business that feels like corporate 2.0.
OKAY, SO HOW DO YOU FIX IT?
We’re not doing an overnight overhaul. We’re not adding 27 things to your to-do list.
We’re starting with one question: What’s your baseline?
What’s the bare minimum marketing you can show up for every single week, no matter how busy, unmotivated, or over it you feel?
For me? This newsletter.
It’s my non-negotiable. I don’t always post 3x a week. I don’t always record Reels or write carousels or repurpose like a machine. But I always send this email.
Since 2020, I've been showing up in your inbox (okay, maybe not yours, but someone's inbox) week after week. I didn't lock into my specific Wednesday 8am EST cadence until 2022, but still, I've been showing up weekly for years.
That’s what baseline means. It’s not about doing the most it's simply about never going fully dark.
Because when you disappear from your audience, you don’t just lose visibility, you lose momentum. You lose connection. You lose the opportunity to stay top of mind before people go into “I need to hire someone” mode.
So I want you to sit down and get brutally honest with yourself:
- What can I actually commit to doing every week?
- What feels doable even when I’m booked or burnt out?
- What channel or format makes it easy for me to show up and go deep?
And let me just say this...if your one weekly post is gonna be the thing you commit to, it better be worth your f*cking while.
Make it something rich. Something juicy. Something real.
Not a throwaway caption that says “new blog post, link in bio.”
Think things like....
→ A portfolio roundup with context and strategy (don't just say "look what I did" tell them why they should care)
→ A bold carousel that actually teaches or challenges something
→ A short-form story that taps into an insight your dream client feels in their bones
This isn’t about being everywhere. It’s about choosing somewhere and owning it. Consistently. Strategically. Intentionally.
Because panic posting is not a strategy my dude and marketing only when you need a client is how you end up with clients you don’t actually want.
You deserve more than that. You’re building something that’s supposed to give you freedom and stability...not a recurring sense of dread.
Sooo start with your baseline and then build from there. ✌
Until next time,
Marissa
